Bulletin of the Project PRA.G.E.S. – PRActising Gender Equality in Science

Dear Colleague(s),

As you know, the University of Milan’s Centre for Study and Research on Women and Gender Differences recently began work on a European Union Seventh Framework research project entitled “Practising Gender Equality in Science”(PRAGES). The project coordinator, the Italian Ministry for Equal Opportunities, is one of ten* research units with whom we are partnering on this study. The core objective of the project is to create an extended network within European countries and Australia, Canada and the United States that will enable us to identify, gather, classify, evaluate and disseminate data oneffective strategies for promoting and strengthening the presence of womenin top-level positions of scientific research (both the hard and soft sciences)and to help generate a process for the mutual exchange of information.

As a first step we have created a database of nearly 1,000 contacts (using snowball sampling through the Internet) that includes many of the most significant gender-oriented institutions/programs in each of the above-mentioned regions. As you already know, you are amongst these contacts

We would be most grateful if you could find the time to respond to a few questions (see attached document) to enable us to pinpoint more specifically the areas in which your institution has developed programs, projects and/or initiatives in this regard. It would be very helpful if you could pleasesend this information to us (prages@unimi.it) at your earliest convenience (as soon as possible).

Thank you in advance for your support and best regards,

Prof. Bianca Beccalli and Prof. Antonio Chiesi
